Vail is free. You need the Ultima Online game files and a client pointed at our address. There's no registration form: your account is created the first time you log in.

1. Get the game files

Both ways of playing need the Ultima Online Classic client files. Download and install the free classic client from the official Ultima Online site, then let it finish patching. Remember where it installed. That folder is your UO data folder.

2. Choose how to play

Option A: ClassicUO (recommended)

A modern, open-source client that reads your installed game files. It runs well on current Windows, macOS and Linux and supports larger game windows.

  1. Download the ClassicUO Launcher from the ClassicUO website and run it.
  2. Create a new profile. Set the UO data folder to where you installed the game.
  3. Server: uo.wobott.org, port 2593.
  4. Client version: 7.0.117.1. Leave encryption off.
  5. Save and press Play.

Option B: the classic client

The original 2D client, played directly.

  1. Open your UO install folder and find Login.cfg. Make a backup copy first.
  2. Open it in Notepad and replace the login server lines with:
    LoginServer=uo.wobott.org,2593
  3. Save the file and start client.exe directly, not through the official launcher, which would undo your change.

3. Create your account

At the login screen, type the account name and password you want to use. If the name is free, the account is created on the spot. Keep your password safe: staff can't recover it for you.

Recommended: an assistant

Most players use an assistant such as Razor or ClassicAssist for hotkeys and macros. They work fine on Vail.

The server ignores actions sent less than 500 ms apart. If your assistant swaps your shield off, drinks and puts it back on too fast, set its object delay to about 550 ms. Then the drink isn't dropped. See Potions.
